Study
Young Person A, a 15-year-old, experienced
a traumatic upbringing in an abusive
environment at home, which left him
without a positive male role model in his life.
At CYCD, he discovered a safe haven that
provided him with support and a sense of
purpose. Through his involvement in
volunteering and various youth programs,
he cultivated confidence, leadership
abilities, and resilience, ultimately
becoming a role model for his peers. His
transformation exemplifies the profound
impact that CYCD can have on individuals'

S arrived in the UK with very limited English, no
local support and high social isolation. Even
everyday tasks, such as visiting the GP or
going to the shops, caused significant anxiety.
Through CYCD’s programme, S progressed
from ESOL Entry 2 and IT training to
employability sessions, creating a CV and
cover letter, learning online job applications,
and practising interviews. Weekly one-minute
speaking tasks built confidence in public
communication.
S also participated in community visits, coffee
mornings, and awareness events, developing
peer networks and a sense of belonging. As a
result, S now communicates confidently,
accesses services independently, and
engages in community life. She describes
